Marcey's Story

Marcey Rizzetta was “super nervous” heading into her scheduled robotic surgery at Waterbury Hospital. In 2021, she underwent open-heart surgery at another hospital after learning she had a genetic heart defect—a major operation that required a long recovery and took a toll on her both physically and emotionally.

Understandably, she felt anxious about having surgery with Dr. Foster at Waterbury Hospital. The negative press about the hospital added to the anxiety.

But from the moment she walked through the door, Marcey said she was pleasantly surprised by the level of care she received.

“People in pre-op were so wonderful—Lisa and Lisa, Dr. Kaiser from anesthesia, Dr. Foster and their wonderful team. I would have trusted anything with them,” Marcey said.

Her excellent care continued on Pomeroy 7, where she spent time recovering after surgery. She said the nurses listened to her wishes and concerns, and were attentive, supportive, and approachable.

“It was such a really good experience,” she said.

Looking back, Marcey is grateful for how smoothly everything went. She now highly recommends Waterbury Hospital for its exceptional doctors, nurses, and overall patient care.
