Waterbury HEALTH Access Program

Lack of insurance shouldn’t be a reason to ignore your health.
Let the professionals at Waterbury HEALTH Access Program help you:
- Enroll in a medical insurance program
- Find a medical home or specialist that fits your needs
- Apply for free or low cost prescription drug programs
- Access free donated health services through Waterbury Project Access
Sponsored by Waterbury Hospital, the Waterbury HEALTH Access Program is a grant-funded multi-institutional collaborative established in 2003 with a Federal Health Resources and Services Administration Grant. The program provides discounted and free medical services to uninsured and underinsured patients in the Greater Waterbury area. Highly trained and bilingual specialists help determine a patient’s eligibility for health insurance including for Medicare and Medicaid, or through the state’s health insurance exchange.

In addition, for those patients who still cannot afford or do not qualify or are not eligible for insurance, Waterbury Project Access can provide free donated services by area professionals. Waterbury Project Access is an extension of the Waterbury HEALTH Access Program made possible through a partnership between Waterbury Hospital, Saint Mary’s Hospital, StayWell Health Center, Alliance Medical Group, Franklin Medical Group, Waterbury Medical Association and other local community action agencies, charities and action groups. Several hundred physicians donate their time and treat hundreds of patients, providing millions of dollars in medical assistance. In addition to this, almost $1.5 million in medications, prescription drugs, and other medical and health care supplies have been donated to provide discounted and free health care for patients in the program.
