SOPHISTICATED SPINE AND CRANIAL ROBOT ASSISTED SURGERY AVAILABLE AT WATERBURY HOSPITAL

Published:

Waterbury Hospital became a leader in the field of robotic guidance and navigation through the addition of the latest state of the art system to help spine and cranial surgery patients.

ExcelsiusGPS® is Globus Medical’s advanced technology solution designed to enhance safety and improve efficiency for patients, staff, and surgeons in the operating room. It is used by neuro and orthopedic surgeons for more precise spinal and cranial surgery reducing recovery time and pain for the patients following surgery.

The system is designed to streamline the surgical workflow and reduce radiation exposure to surgeons and staff. This revolutionary robotic navigation platform is the world’s first technology to combine a rigid robotic arm and full navigation capabilities into one adaptable platform for accurate trajectory alignment in spine surgery.

“Waterbury Hospital continues to add sophisticated technology that allows us to provide the highest quality of care for our patients in their community. We look forward to the exciting opportunities and undoubtable impact this technology will bring to the field of spine surgery, robotics, and navigation” – said Dr. Justin Lundbye, President and CEO of Waterbury HEALTH.

ExcelsiusGPS is only the latest in sophisticated technology used to help patients at Waterbury Hospital. Last year Waterbury Hospital added a new interventional radiology suite offering less invasive, very sophisticated procedures, including for treatment of liver cancer and prostate conditions. In 2021, Waterbury Hospital added a hybrid operating suite which allows Waterbury Hospital doctors to perform trans aortic valve replacement, a procedure during which heart valves are replaced without open heart surgery.

The hospital offers a wide range of robotic surgery including colorectal and orthopedic. Waterbury Hospital is home to four major centers of excellence: Cardiology, Orthopedic, Surgical Innovation, and Family Birthing. Waterbury Hospital was ranked a high performing hospital for patients suffering from kidney failure, heart failure and stroke by the U.S. News & World Report 2022-2023 Best Hospital edition.
