About Our Program
As of September 1, 2025, UConn School of Medicine was selected by Waterbury Health as its new sponsor for its internal medicine training program established in 2014.
UConn School of Medicine is a leader in graduate medical education in Connecticut and is among the largest sponsors of GME in the country ranking in size among the nation’s top 10 percentile. UConn is home to robust 80 plus residency training programs annually training over 800 physicians and surgeons.

Our Residency’s Mission
The goal of the UConn Waterbury Internal Medicine Residency Program is to train excellent internists who derive joy and purpose from the care of patients and the pursuit of life-long learning in an increasingly complex healthcare system. Our program provides a diverse community of residents and core faculty dedicated to teaching in a nurturing training environment. Residents experience a wide range of educational opportunities.We aspire to advance the health of our patients in the Waterbury community through our service, and we focus on a spirit of collegiality and kindness that puts the individual first.
