UCONN HEALTH PHYSICIANS BRING EXPERT HIGH-RISK PREGNANCY CARE TO GREATER WATERBURY COMMUNITY
UConn Health Waterbury Hospital today announced a new collaboration with UConn Health John Dempsey Hospital to bring expert high-risk pregnancy care to the Greater Waterbury community.
When a woman and her baby have an increased chance of experiencing problems during pregnancy, it's called a high-risk pregnancy. Some health conditions, like diabetes, lupus, and cancer, can lead to a high-risk pregnancy, as can certain lifestyle factors, such as tobacco, alcohol, and drug use, and exposure to certain toxins. Age can also be a factor.
Complications of high-risk pregnancies may include high blood pressure, new-onset (gestational) diabetes during pregnancy, poor growth of the baby, going into labor too early (also known as preterm labor), birth defects, and more.
High-Risk Pregnancy Services include:
- Consultation and management of high-risk and medically complex pregnancies
- Preconception counseling for individuals with medical or obstetric risk factors
- First-trimester ultrasound and aneuploidy screening
- Comprehensive fetal anatomic ultrasound
- Prenatal diagnosis of fetal conditions
- Fetal echocardiography
- Antenatal fetal surveillance (including nonstress testing and biophysical profiles)
- Consultation with referring obstetric providers before, during, and after pregnancy
- Pregnancy planning and management for patients with chronic medical conditions
The team is staffed by UConn Health John Dempsey board-certified maternal-fetal medicine physicians and includes specially trained technicians, all with expertise in high-risk pregnancy care.
This collaboration reflects UConn Health Waterbury Hospital's continued investment in maternal and child health and its mission to provide high-quality, accessible care to the region.
