Celebration highlights partnerships with community

WATERBURY – Nearly 400 employees, volunteers, medical staff members and community representatives attended the Power of WE: Celebrating Our Commitment to the Community event held on November 10 at La Bella Vista.

More than 25 community organizations were represented at the event, which also included Waterbury HEALTH employees who serve in various capacities in the community. Waterbury HEALTH and its employees support more than 100 community organizations.

“We are proud of the role our organization plays in helping to improve the health and quality of life for our community,” said Waterbury HEALTH CEO Peter Adamo.  “Our commitment to the community is threaded throughout Waterbury HEALTH with the voluntarism of our employees.”

During the past fiscal year (2018), Waterbury HEALTH increased by more than 3% the funding earmarked for community building and community benefit activities.  The health network has increased its commitment to serving the community since changing ownership to Prospect Medical Holdings in 2016.

Also during the community celebration, Waterbury HEALTH paid tribute to 2018 Community Champion William Pizzuto, PhD, University of Connecticut Director, Waterbury Campus. Pizzuto is Waterbury HEALTH’s first community champion, starting a new tradition for the organization. Waterbury HEALTH has started two new scholarships for students pursuing careers in the medical field, including one for UConn Waterbury students. A $1,000 check was presented to Pizzuto at the event. An inaugural Waterbury HEALTH Medical Staff Scholarship was awarded to a senior at Waterbury Career Academy High School in March.
