Aaron S. Covey, MD, MBA, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with more than two decades of experience providing comprehensive musculoskeletal care to patients throughout central Connecticut. With advanced training in sports medicine and upper extremity surgery, Dr. Covey is committed to helping patients restore function, reduce pain, and return to the activities they enjoy most. His practice emphasizes personalized treatment plans that incorporate both non-surgical and surgical options tailored to each patient's individual needs and goals.
Dr. Covey attended Yale University, where he simultaneously earned both his Doctor of Medicine degree and Master of Business Administration from the Yale School of Management. During medical school, he completed a Health Policy Internship with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in Washington, D.C., further expanding his understanding of healthcare delivery and patient advocacy. Following medical school, Dr. Covey completed his internship in General Surgery and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at Yale New Haven Hospital. He then pursued advanced fellowship training in Shoulder, Elbow, and Sports Medicine at Columbia University, where he gained extensive experience caring for athletes ranging from high school competitors to collegiate and professional athletes, including members of the New York Yankees organization. He has been board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery since 2008.
Dr. Covey specializes in the treatment of sports-related injuries, shoulder disorders, and knee conditions. His clinical interests include rotator cuff injuries, shoulder instability, arthritis, ligament and tendon injuries, knee pain, and sports medicine. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Covey serves as the Head Team Physician for Choate Rosemary Hall, where he helps oversee the care of student-athletes competing across a wide range of varsity sports programs. He previously served as Lead Team Physician for the University of New Haven for a decade and has provided sports medicine consultation for Southern Connecticut State University athletics. His longstanding involvement in athletic medicine reflects his passion for helping athletes of all ages safely return to competition and maintain active lifestyles.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Covey performs Record Reviews and Independent Medical Examinations (RMEs) and remains committed to advancing orthopaedic care through lifelong learning, innovation, and service to the communities he serves.
